In 1639 according to the first inventory of grants and possession in Watertown, Ellis owned a homestall of ten acres, more or less, bounded east by Thomas Boyson and Richard Linton, west with Stone Street, north by James Cutler, and south by Thomas Smith
In 1641 he became a freeman in Watertown.
In 1658 he was constable.
In 1668 and 1673 a selectman .

He died on October 30, 1676 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
Any man entering a colony or becoming a a member the church, was not free. He was not forced to work, but his movements were carefully observed to see if they followed the Puritanical ideal. After this probationary period, he became a "freeman." Men then took the Oath of a Freeman where they vowed to defend the Commonwealth and not to overthrow the government.
A blockhouse or garrison house is a small, isolated fort. The typical blockhouse was two stories with the second story overhanging the first. It had small openings to allow residents to shoot attackers without being exposed.
Ellis Barron was born about 1633.
In 1653 he married Hannah or Anne Hammond Hawkins. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hammond and was the widow of Timothy Hawkins

During King William's War, the inhabitants of Groton settled in garrisons for protection against the indigenous people. Ellis was in Jonas Prescott's garrison.
Ellis died in 1712 in Lancaster.
